What does a birth chart contain?
A beginner-friendly guide to the main parts of a Vedic birth chart and what they represent.
A snapshot based on birth details
A birth chart, or kundli, maps the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets for a person's birth date, time and place. In Vedic astrology, these positions are organised into signs and houses and interpreted using established astrological traditions.
Planets, signs and houses
Planets are associated with different themes, signs describe the style in which those themes are expressed, and houses organise areas of life. The rising sign, or ascendant, is calculated using the time and place of birth and sets the chart's house layout.
A chart is context, not a guarantee
Astrological interpretations depend on the full chart and the method being used. A single placement should not be treated as a complete description or a guaranteed outcome. Nakshanjali presents chart information and explanations as a way to explore that context.
